12 Days of My FAN Club – Day 9

*** I’m talking about the FAN principle used by genealogists to list Friends, Associates, and Neighbors of your ancestors.  Your FAN club can be a great research technique that can help break down brick walls and help you learn more about your ancestors lives and their communities. This is one of my best friends, Felicia Long Johnson. I don’t remember when or how we met. But I’m just glad we did. We attended the University of Arkansas together and became fast friends during my sophomore year. Someone once said that ‘some people come into your life for a season, and some people come into your life for a reason’. Felicia is in my life for a reason and for a lifetime. She is my original hype woman. She has always seen something in me that I don’t always see in myself. For some reason not only does she think I can do anything, but she also thinks that I will be great at it. She was one of the first people to tell me how my genealogy journey was more than just a hobby but that I would inspire people. Our 25 year friendship has grown into a sisterhood. We have shared tears of sadness and joy together. We have watched our children grow into adults. She is feisty and no nonsense, but she also has a calming nature about her that can quiet a crowd to listen to her speak. She is simply amazing, and I’m blessed to call her my sister.
