It’s hard to believe that 2020 is finally over. 2020 was a difficult year for so many reasons. I’m sure most of us have been impacted by COVID-19, either directly or indirectly. 2020 was difficult for me and my family because my father passed away this past November. Because of everything going on in the world and with my family, 2020 taught me just how important this journey is. I now have renewed energy to get back to my research. So I want to put my best foot forward in this new year by setting some goals for research. The last time I made research goals was in 2018 (click HERE to read my 2018 Goals).

My general genealogy goals include:

1. Participate in Amy Johnson Crow’s 2021 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks Challenge (click HERE to read more about this challenge)
2. Complete four 30X30 research challenge (click HERE to read more about this challenge)
3. Post at least two blogs a month
4. Post a Wordless Wednesday blog at least three times a month.
5. Go on at least two research trips in 2021
6. Attend at least two genealogy conferences in 2021
7. Record one podcast a month
8. Organize family photos and scan them to my computer
9. Research Arkansas slave laws, slavery in northeast Arkansas, and Reconstruction in Arkansas

My family research goals include:

1. Research John and Lydia Moose
2. Research Robert Hatchett’s mother, Sally and their slave holding family W. H. Pickett.
3. Research Tillman and Ann Eliza Ward
4. Research Grandpa Booker’s parents
5. Find death dates/places for

• Jacob Skipper
• John Denson
• Joseph Wright
• Louis Heck
• Nancy Blue Heck

These are the areas in my research/journey that I plan on focusing on this year. This list is very fluid for me, so it may change depending on the information that is discovered. If you read my 2018 genealogy goals then you know I have been researching some of these ancestors for a while now. But like I always say, genealogy is a marathon not a sprint. So sometimes it takes a while and some creative thinking to find some answers. But I have a few new research techniques to use, as well as a few genealogy buddies that I may just pick their brain for some research ideas this year.
