52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks: Week 32 – Sister

NOTE: I accepted the 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks challenge headed by fellow genealogy blogger Amy Johnson Crow in January 2019. The idea behind this challenge is that you will receive email prompts, a word or phrase, every week, and you find something about your research or family history to write about. I write in a journal about all the prompts, but I blog about at least one prompt a month. Click HERE to read about how I have incorporated this challenge in my blogging.

This is my sister, Paedra I. Mays.  She is the second oldest of Mays children.  Making her the middle child and the oldest daughter.  I would have to say that she is the most serious of the three of us.  My brother would agree that she thinks she’s the boss of both us, our children, and our spouses.  She wears her emotions on her sleeve and on her face, so it’s not hard to tell what’s going on with her.

My sister is beautiful, smart, caring, independent, sensitive, and a true gangster.  People think I’m the hothead in the family, but honestly my sister has me beat on that.  Word to the wise, don’t mess with her or anyone she loves.  She will defend those she loves to the death if needed, but don’t cross her because she will cut you off and be done with you in less than a second.

She hates taking pictures.  But this is one of my favorites.

My sister and I have shared a bedroom, clothes, chores, a love of history and so much more over the past 42 years.  We are sisters by both chance and choice, because we are both members of the same sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, making us both sisters and sorors.

My sister and I have a close relationship.  She can tell when something is wrong with me over the phone from California.  She doesn’t have to see me to know how I’m feeling, and unlike my brother she requires words, lots of words because she going to ask a lot of questions.  We may not look alike, but we are alike in so many other ways.  Good, bad, ugly, and indifferent…I didn’t pick her, but I’m so blessed to call her sister.

Your sister is a rock…a strongly independent, intelligent woman. She is, indeed, a blessing.
