Do You Utilize Ancestry Academy? I Just Started…

I have been a member of Ancestry on and off since 2012.  In the beginning, it was the only genealogy website I used.  I built my tree on Ancestry, looked at census records, and looked at other public trees that might have some additional information about my ancestors.  I just jumped in and learned as I went along.  Anytime I logged on I would always go straight to the search tab, usually using census and voter lists first and then all collections.  I’m a creature of habit, so I pretty much do the same thing the same way all the time.

I changed my focus last year and started using Family Search more, and I was going to libraries and archives more.  And I let my subscription lapse for most of 2017.  I recently renewed my subscription because I want to learn more about my DNA results and matches.  I was looking through my matches and thought to myself…I need to learn more about how this works and how I can get the most out of my DNA test.  For the first time, I noticed the Extras tab at the top of the screen.  I had never used this tab before, and the first thing that caught my eye in the drop down was Ancestry Academy.  So I clicked on that tab and up popped all of these videos.  Everything from understanding DNA to military records, Ancestry Tips and Tricks to Getting the Most out of Ancestry, and Beginning Family History Research and Methodology. I thought to myself…Why haven’t I watched some of these videos sooner?  There is so much information available that I never utilized before.

The first video I watched was Expand and Support Your Genealogy Research with DNA.  This is an hour-long video that discusses how you can use your DNA results and your matches to expand your research.  This was a very informative video that helped answer some questions of mine.  I’m always looking to learn more about genealogy and genetic DNA, and Ancestry Academy will be a lot of help to me.  I may be late to the game, but I’m going to watch as many of these videos as I can in the very near future.  And this is how my journey will continue…
