12 Days of My Family History Discoveries – Day 8

I’ve always felt deeply connected to my family through cherished photos and memories. My official research journey didn’t begin until 2011. In these past 14 years, I have made some wonderful discoveries that I will be sharing to celebrate the holiday season.

My husband started his family history research started in 2019. He decided to focus on this paternal side because that’s the side of his family he knew the least about. He was able to discover four generations of his paternal side, including his great grandfather, Dr. Ralph Percy Cummings, or as Phillip likes to call him, the Doctor.

I am so proud of the work Phillip has done to research his family history. In his research, Phillip learned that Dr. Cummings was one of the first African American doctors in Conway, Faulkner County, Arkansas after he graduated from Maharry Medical School in Nashville, TN in the early 1900s.

Phillip has done all of his research on his own. I have just been along for the ride, and what a ride it has been. Through his research he was able to uncover an entire branch of his family, and a family legacy to share with future generations.
