NOTE: I accepted the 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks challenge headed by fellow genealogy blogger Amy Johnson Crow. The idea behind this challenge is that you will receive email prompts, a word or phrase, every week, and you find something about your research or family history to write about. There’s a scene in Forrest Gump where Lieutenant Dan tells Forrest that someone in his family had fought and died in every single American war. That line has always stuck with me.
While my family’s story isn’t quite as extensive, I’ve often thought about the men and women in my own family who served their country – each during a different era, each in a different uniform. From a relative who fought in World War I, to those who served during the Korean War and Vietnam, their stories remind me that military service has quietly run through my family for decades.
This wartime legacy is more than names on a roster. It’s a reminder of strength, sacrifice, and resilience that echoes through my family’s story.
