52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks 2025 – Week 37: In the News

NOTE: I accepted the 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks challenge headed by fellow genealogy blogger Amy Johnson Crow. The idea behind this challenge is that you will receive email prompts, a word or phrase, every week, and you find something about your research or family history to write about.  Click HERE to read my first 52 Ancestors blog post in 2019.

My first job was a typesetter for my hometown paper. I would type out articles written by reporters for print. I loved that job because I felt like I was getting the news before everyone else in town, and it definitely sharpened my typing skills. When I when to college, I worked for the University of Arkansas, Traveler in a different capacity. I was a photographer. I would go to different campus events and take pictures of student life. The photo below is my first photo credit.

These jobs helped me understand the news business and the importance of what it takes to get the local news to the masses. That is one of the reasons that newspapers hold a special place in my heart and in my family history research.
