52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks 2025: Week 4 – Overlook

NOTE: I accepted the 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks challenge headed by fellow genealogy blogger Amy Johnson Crow. The idea behind this challenge is that you will receive email prompts, a word or phrase, every week, and you find something about your research or family history to write about.  Click HERE to read my first 52 Ancestors blog post in 2019.

When I first saw this prompt, I didn’t know what I wanted to write about or how I could incorporate this word in my family history research. Once I stopped thinking about it is when the answer came to me. I would write about the ancestor that I have overlooked in my family tree, my 2X paternal great grandmother, Classie Moose Goodlow.

When I look at my family tree, I know that I haven’t spent the same amount of time and energy on Classie as I have most of my ancestors. When I ask myself why that is, I don’t have an answer. When it comes to Classie, I know the basics. She was born in Arkansas in 1876. She was married to Rufus Goodlow. She died on January 8, 1939 in Arkansas. I know they had two children Carrie Goodlow Denson Flemming and Sam Goodlow.

I want to learn about her as a person. Where did she go to church? Did she belong to any social organizations? Was she a part of the women’s suffrage movement? I just have to make the time to research her better. I make plans every year of all the research I want to do, and most of the time it doesn’t happen the way I want it to. I have learned that when things happen organically is when I get the best research results. Now that I have highlighted this overlook in my research, hopefully I have put out some good energy and will learn something new about Mrs. Classie Moose Goodlow in 2025.
