How Do You Celebrate Your Birthday?

My birthday has always been a special day for me. Growing up we always celebrated birthdays on our actual birthday, no matter what day of the week it was. I always got to pick out what we had for dinner that night, and the evening always ended with cake and ice cream. My birthday is in early August, so most years my family usually did a day trip to a theme park or something the weekend after my birthday as combined birthday trip/end of the summer trip.

As I have gotten older, my birthday is even more special to me as an adult. It’s the one day out of the year that I don’t share with anyone, unlike Mother’s Day or my wedding anniversary. I always plan a vacation day from work, so I can do all the things I want to throughout the day. Now a days that includes researching, going through photos, getting my hair or nails done, and watching some of my favorite TV shows. The tradition of traveling has continued now that I’m older. My husband, son, and I sometimes will take an end of the summer road trip. But more recently I have been traveling with my brother and sister on a siblings trip for my birthday.

Photos have always been at the forefront of my birthday. I remember my Mom taking a ton of photos on everyone’s birthday. I even had a photo on one of my birthday cakes. Since I have had a cell phone, my Dad and sister have always sent me photos of myself on my birthday. Usually childhood photos that I would then post to social media. Now my social media memories are now flooded with pictures of me and my siblings on my birthday.

Since photos have always been a part of my celebration in some way or another, I thought I would do something special for my Wordless Wednesday posts for the month of August. This month I will be posting photos that I have been sent to me by my friends and family. Some of these photos are my relatives other are long time family friends. I have said from the beginning, this journey isn’t just for me or about me. This journey is for any and everyone that wants to be involved. I hope you enjoy getting a glimpse of my friends and family throughout the month of August. If you have a special family photo, please share it in the comments. I would love to see it. Let me know if you have any birthday traditions or must haves.
